A slightly later start on day 2 of our trip - today’s adventure was attempting to hike to the famous Drangarnir sea stack and hopefully get a few decent photos in the process.

This was a famous location that required a guided hiking tour to get to this incredible location. This started at 11 am and ended up taking roughly 5 hours for our group to get to the location, take some photos, and then return.

It was a fairly early day for us. As we were staying in a small village called Lamba, we did have a fair bit to drive to get to the starting point of the trail in Sørvágur. The meeting point itself was just past the port next to the Effo petrol station where you can grab a quick drink or snack, or use the facilities.

The Hike to Drangarnir

The hike itself was possibly the most exciting hike of the trip for me - I’d seen quite a few spectacular photos of the stacks and was very keen to see them for myself.

You start by heading further west from the port, following a very small but fairly well-defined path around the coastline - it can get slightly slippy and muddy in parts, so make sure that you take a decent pair of waterproof boots with you!

The path cuts through some fairly steep terrain, one small missed step and you could be going for a rather cold swim in your hiking gear.

As a group, you gradually wind your way around the coast and get some impressive views across the water towards the small town of Bøur as well as some of the salmon farms.

Our tour guide did not have a lot of good things to say about the farmed salmon, his knowledge of some of the issues this method of fishing sees has certainly made me reconsider buying farmed salmon ever again 👀.
